Who thought Tuesdays could go so slowly?

Today is taking FOR-EV-ER to go by! Since tomorrow is our first ultrasound, I've been waiting since I made the appointment a week and a half ago. Now that it's so close, I feel like it's Christmas Eve and I can't go to sleep. I want to see our little 'possum and make sure everything is going to be fine.

I've been really tired lately, which I suppose is to be expected. While Orion was napping I got in about 30 minutes of sleep. Weird sleep, but sleep nonetheless. When they warn you that pregnant women have really strange dreams, they aren't kidding. Hopefully the strangeness of the dreams has nothing to do with the strangeness of the baby. Of course, who are we kidding? It's half me and half Tom...so it'll be ALL strange, just like his or her older brother.

Best Site (Besides This One) on the Internet

So, if you're into fun, random thoughts from law enforcement officers, and a great group of people, you should totally check out www.officerresource.com . It's run by police officers FOR police officers, but really, anyone is welcome!!

Crazy Pregnancy Hormones

I was pretty even keeled emotionally when I was pregnant with Orion. There weren't really any crazy outbursts or psychotic ramblings. Apparently, with THIS baby, my hormones and emotions have been tossed into the pregnancy blender only to later spew whatever mixture it seems to come up with.

In the most recent case, the pregnancy blender chose to spew molten crazy angry psycho chick all over the place. What started out as a simple phone call to Tom complaining about our insurance (we had WAY better insurance last pregnancy) turned into me wanting to kick him out and move to Guam. Or Canada. Or heck, even Germany. Anywhere that wasn't anywhere near him. Granted, I know that guys say stupid things ("What do you expect from this phone call?") and it usually doesn't bother me because they're guys and that's just the way they are. This time, however, that was not to be. I hung up on him. I cried. I threw things. I laid down in bed trying to calm down and would just get worked up more and more ("How in the world can I raise children with this man? He's such a fucking asshole!!!").

Of course, it passed eventually and everything was fine. I explained to Tom the finer points of womanly venting and how, for the most part, it's not that we want you to fix anything, we just want to bitch. Hopefully, in the future, he'll be a little bit more understanding...and the pregnancy blender won't get stuck on full crazy.

And today is Week 6...

I've decided to dedicate this blog to my pregnancy...yes, that's right. I said pregnancy.

After having Orion, we decided to use Mirena (an IUD) for birth control. It worked like a charm! This last October, we decided we'd like to start trying for number 2. Fast forward now to March, and Orion is going to be a big brother!! I took the test on Friday, March 13th that came back with the blissfully beautiful word "pregnant".

Since I'm diabetic there are, of course, some special challenges that go along with pregnancy. Unfortunately, right now I want to eat anything in sight, but my blood sugars are out of whack as it is and I feel like I'm chasing my highs with insulin when they happen instead of keeping a steady pace. The doctor did say today that my blood work all came back normal, so that's awesome.

My boobs are killing me (really, can I just chop them off?) and I feel exhausted all the freakin' time. Chasing after an almost 2 year old in the process isn't helping matters much either.

Despite all of the downs, I really couldn't be happier. Our first ultrasound is a week from today (April 1st), and I can't wait to see that little teeny tiny heartbeat on the monitor. I'm glad that Orion will have a sibling and I'm glad that it didn't take us nine years to give him one. God has blessed us immensely and I couldn't be more grateful and ecstatic.

I have also decided that I need to start getting some "pregnancy friendly" exercise. Thank goodness for NetFlix. I signed up to receive a bunch of pregnancy fitness DVD's. Here's the thing...I don't do Yoga on a regular day. I suppose there's no time like the present to start! :)

Here is what the little 'possum looks like this week:
